King County Metro is the public transit agency that serves the greater Seattle area. In early 2002, King County Metro contacted Girvin for help redesigning its website, which handles more than 60% of the agency's customer contacts. In 2001, web site traffic amounted to nearly 10,000 user sessions per day.

Metro lacked consistent branding across three different websites (Metro Online, Trip Planner and Pass Sales) which led to customer confusion. The look and feel of the existing site felt out-of-date and inconsistent with Metro's desire to be a leading-edge transit agency.

Girvin worked to completely reorganize the site's content into logical points of navigation with logical expansion options for new services. From a user interface perspective we created icons for the most important user functions (Timetables, Trip Planner and Pass Sales) and allowed for the user to reach these functions from any page on the site.

By integrating the design of the three separate sites, moving between them became transparent for the user. Adhering to the strict accessibility and bandwidth requirements of the county, Girvin re-designed the site and updated its look and functionality, increasing online pass sales immediately after launch.
