Partnering with Ron Mitchell's international design group, Think! Global Design Collaborative, Pivotal AEI lighting design group and Belt Collins' Seattle landscaping team, Girvin has created an opening grouping of studies, recommendations and visualizations that have been approved for advancement on one of the biggest opening development enterprises in The World -- OQYANA World First, a $5 billion lifestyle project, located off the coast of Dubai. The World is an archipelago consisting of more than 300 mostly man-made islands shaped in an image of the earth's continents. The Oqyana project stretches over 22 islands that will form the shape of Australia and New Zealand. This is the largest set of islands in the development, as well as the closest to the port of Dubai. The World is to consist of twin-fronted villas, each with a private beach and private boat dock. At least 12,000 residential apartments and penthouses will be built, as well as five luxury hotels, canal-side homes and floating villas. Girvin's responsibility has been to develop opening strategic recommendations, environmental graphics and wayfinding alignment with Think! GDC's overall planning and architectural innovations. The design development will be continuing into 2012, with site updates explicating the process and design evolutions.
