Planet Hollywood
The Challenge
A New World
British businessman Robert Earl and film producer Keith Barish reached out to GIRVIN to help develop a logo and icon for a new global restaurant.
The Solution
Storytelling the Props of Hollywood
Tim Girvin worked onsite in Beverly Hills with Robert Earl and Keith Barish, co-founders of Planet Hollywood, as well as celebrity members of the brand’s foundational team, investors and celebrity participants to design the global icon for Planet Hollywood.
Our work was first applied, in partnership with Anton Furst, an esteemed motion picture production designer, for street signage and merchandising in NYC. The GIRVIN team’s creative origination of the Planet Hollywood brand’s global standards took the brand identity worldwide, throughout North America, the UK, the UAE and Japan.

While the brand was in play in 60 global locations, the logo was widely merchandised as a foundational take-away revenue.

Client Perspective
“
Planet Hollywood is about total entertainment. From the food to the environment to the employees, the spirit is maximum fun. An important part of the total merchandising plan of Planet Hollywood, however, is the actual brand identity created by Tim Girvin Design. I had the opportunity to work with his firm for the creation of a strong, international mark combining a universally recognized illustration in conjunction with a hip Hollywood type style. We worked together for about six months while the Manhattan prototype was being finalized. What a abulous success it’s been for our venues around the world! Everybody loves that Planet Hollywood hat, shirt or rich leather jacket; our star partners wear it with pride. For us, our worldwide merchandising sales say it all! Excellent design sells.”
