Library with wave shaped bookcases

Ask Now

The Challenge

Fully Booked

After giving a library learning presentation on brand development and information systems, GIRVIN was approached by a team of librarians from California. They had a vision to create a collective, inquiry-based presence for all the libraries in California—the largest consortium of libraries in the US—and a tool to access information 24/7 deployed nationally.

The Solution

Dewey Belong Together?

GIRVIN began building a brand strategy and a nomenclature for this tool—named by GIRVIN’s Ideator® team as Ask Now—which which would be part of the 24/7 Reference statewide cooperative—then mobilized as the 24-hour service attached to the expansive, proposed network of libraries nationally.

We first focused on naming the inquiry tool, and then created an identity that matched the fundamental authenticity, lively spirit, and intelligence of the learning-focused team of librarian scientists leading the information access programming; and designed an interface that focused on building simplistic tool access in two languages.

The Result

The success of the tool was outstanding: with 5 million users accessing the site per month. And while the nomenclature has shifted, the core search tool set is in play to this day.
