True living — expressing yourself to the fullest — often means entering uncharted territory which can be frightening for all involved. But one must go forward; there is no choice when your life is on fire. Such passion often comes with the bitter-sweet taste of pain and tragedy. The Phoenix burning in his ashes. Michael Jackson poured forth his talent and spirit with abandon and left an indelible personal mark on the world. I arranged and orchestrated Mussorgky's "Great Gate of Kiev" for Jackson's opening overture for the HIStory tour. He wanted it big. I gave him huge. The piece was recorded at Sony Studios with a 100-piece orchestra. I couldn't think of a more appropriate piece to introduce the fiery brand, the Pyrotechnic Super Star of Pop. Yeah, it was big.
