Life can be such a tenuous thing, fleeting, profound. True living — expressing yourself to the fullest — often means entering uncharted territory which can be frightening for all involved. Michael Jackson poured forth his talent and spirit with abandon and left an indelible personal mark on the world. His fragile and luminous style shall not be forgotten, and his incredible music will be with us ever onward. Phoenix rising...

The mists of proto-history, fire, flames. human torch... all apply to the wonder that was MJ. I arranged and orchestrated Mussorgky's "Great Gate of Kiev" for Jackson's opening overture for the HIStory tour. He wanted it big. I gave him huge. The piece was recorded at Sony Studios with a 100-piece orchestra. I couldn't think of a more appropriate piece to introduce the fiery brand, the Pyrotechnic Super Star of Pop. Yeah, it was big. But he was much bigger.
