IMPLICATIONS OF CULTURE
In an engaged manner,
culture appeals most inherently to
the idea of cultivation.
A metaphor of gardens, flowering and nurturing growth.
In the cultural revolution of the world inside brands,
the longest shadow from the light of inspiration invariably comes from the top.
Who leads, and what culture do they surround themselves with?
In my journeys,
I get into brands —
I walk into their space,
I find their place and
mingle with their communities.
You can tell how a brand feels, inside —
how they stand,
how they look at each other;
how they relate to each other.
Would that be a stance of upright connectedness, or is the posturing tired and unforgiven? How to they listen? Touch. Share. Explore, collaborate. Is there quiet in the moments of conversation, or do people talk on top of each other? Respect is that — “looking back” — the etymology
It’s the attention of re-examining,
that which has been.
In conversation, innovation summits,
good listening will be
not only about
what is in front,
but what has been heard.
And relating — the relating of communities is invariably about sharing.
To relate is about storytelling, but moreover, it’s about carrying.
Relatus, from the Latin,
it is to carry.
And, of course,
to relate a story, held.
In my work with teams, it’s how they carry me, and how I carry them — how each, in our storytelling, our sharing of lives learned and journeys found — and what we have gathered will be invariably about what we carry, what we hold, and how we relate that carrying.
